The Digital Logistics Award began its success story in 2017. More than 40 start-ups, start-ins and ideas generators decided to compete for the new logistics community award. One of them was MotionMiners from Dortmund. More than 500 experts in the logistics sector selected it as the winner. But what does the start-up actually do?

MotionMiners and its product, Motion-Mining®, undertake automatic analyses of manual processes. With the aid of sensors and machine learning algorithms, it captures reliable data on ergonomics, productivity and efficiency – thus revealing potential for improvements. Mobile sensors, wearables and mini-transmitters make it possible to record real, valid process data like travel and picking times.

Things really took off following the triumph in the 2017 Digital Logistics Award. The company received many more awards, such as first place in the TU Start-up Award, participation in the DBmindbox Start-up Accelerator, first place in Start2Grow’s business plan competition, as well as the special technology prize. In addition, the team was awarded a top prize in the Digital Innovations competition for ideas of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Beyond these awards, the start-up team acquired eight clients, including big names like Bayer, Hugo Boss und Skoda. MotionMiners has now expanded its team to 15 people.

The 2018 Digital Logistics Award is looking for innovative digital logistics solutions for manufacturing, trade, automotive, farm & food, mobility, the financial sector and other sectors, as well as the business ideas of the future. Applicants should have a desire to help shape the digital transformation. The Digital Logistics Award offers some of the highest prize money in the logistics start-up community. Eight finalists will be given the opportunity to pitch to more than 500 decision-makers from the logistics sector at the 2018 Congress on the Future of Logistics.

The three winners of the Digital Logistics Award will receive a comparatively large amount of money as their prize. €30,000 for the winner, €15,000 for the company coming second, and €5,000 for the start-up in third place will foster the development and marketing of innovative business ideas. But just making it to the finals already makes the company a winner. The eight teams will each receive two free tickets to attend the 2018 Congress on the Future of Logistics, free use of exhibition space at the congress, and the possibility to meet with 500 decision-makers from the logistics sector.

A pitch deck and a short video are all it takes to apply. The deadline for applications is 31 July 2018. All of the entries will be reviewed by a jury of experts from the business community. The jury will select eight contenders, who will present their projects in a five-minute pitch at the 2018 Congress on the Future of Logistics in Dortmund on 11 September. Following this, the audience of experts will select the three winning teams, which will be awarded their prizes in a ceremony that evening.
